Consider a Neck Pillow

For those who will be traveling by plane or train during the holiday season, one of the most valuable tools in your arsenal for preventing neck pain is a high-quality neck pillow. These are designed specifically to support your head and neck while you sleep in an upright position, which can otherwise lead to serious aches and pains.

Look for pillows with adjustable features that allow you to customize them to your comfort level. Additionally, make sure to select a pillow that offers adequate neck support – this will depend on your specific preferences and needs.

Luggage Weight and Considerations

Another major area to consider for those who will be traveling this holiday season: Luggage weight and how you handle it. Lifting and carrying heavy luggage can put a significant strain on your neck and back muscles, particularly if you’re dealing with pre-existing pain or sensitivity in these areas.

Whenever possible, opt for a rolling suitcase rather than one you need to carry – this will save your muscles a great deal of stress. If you do need to carry luggage, make sure to keep it close to your body and avoid awkward or uncomfortable positions that could lead to pain. Additionally, try not to overpack – only bring what you absolutely need for the trip.

Aisle Seat

If you know that you’ll be flying during the holiday season, try to book an aisle seat if possible. This will give you more space to stretch and move around, which can ease any tension or stiffness in your neck or back. If you’re unable to secure an aisle seat, make sure to regularly get up and walk around during the flight to keep your muscles loose and prevent pain.

In part two of our series, we’ll go over some important additional areas like stretching and exercise, hydration and proper posture to keep in mind during any holiday travels you have planned this year.
